OmniDock Support

Start with three everyday actions

Open OmniDock from Applications, then click OD in the menu bar to reach Settings. You don't need to turn everything on. Pick one of these actions and grant only the permissions its setup asks for; try the next one when you're ready.

Give one app its own shortcut

Choose an app you return to often. In Hotkeys, enable app hotkeys, add the app, and record a combination that isn't already in use. Switch away and press it to bring the app back. Set up an app hotkey.

Find a window from the Dock

Open two separate windows in the same app. Under Window Preview, enable Show Dock Window Previews and follow the permission prompts. Hover over the app's Dock icon, then choose a preview. Watch the Dock preview demo.

Put a window where you want it

Start with a normal, resizable window—not a full-screen one. In Window Layout, choose a layout and set up one way to trigger it, such as a shortcut or drag zone. Try a half-screen position before creating your own sizes. Set up window layouts.

Prefer clicking an icon to put an app away? Set up click-to-hide. Clipboard history is optional and off by default; read the privacy explanation before enabling it. If any of these actions don't work, start with the permissions below.

Check system permissions

System permissions

OmniDock may ask for the following macOS permissions:

• Accessibility: identify Dock icons and bring windows forward, hide apps, or close windows when you ask.
• Input Monitoring: detect clicks on Dock app icons on macOS versions that require this permission.
• Screen Recording: create window thumbnails, including live previews and one-time static snapshots.

Review or change these permissions in System Settings under Privacy & Security.

Dock previews or click actions stopped working

1. Quit and reopen OmniDock.
2. Confirm the required permissions are enabled for OmniDock.
3. If macOS still blocks the feature, remove OmniDock from the affected permission list and add it again.
4. Make sure the installed app is running from /Applications/OmniDock.app.

I can't set an app shortcut

1. Use a shortcut that includes Command, Control, or Option.
2. Avoid browser tab navigation shortcuts and common macOS menu shortcuts.
3. Remove any duplicate shortcut already assigned inside OmniDock.
4. Reopen OmniDock after changing system permissions.

Option-Tab does not open the window switcher

1. Under OD > Window Preview, turn on Show Dock Window Previews, then Alt-Tab Preview.
2. Confirm Accessibility, Input Monitoring, and Screen Recording are granted.
3. Check whether another app has already claimed Option-Tab, and release it there first.

A window layout does not apply

Window Layout needs Accessibility and Input Monitoring. It can only move or resize normal windows that the app lets macOS control.

1. Leave full screen first. Full-screen windows and system panels do not accept a layout.
2. Some apps set a minimum or fixed window size. OmniDock can't make those windows smaller than the app allows.
3. Confirm the layout you expect is enabled under OD > Window Layout.
4. For drag zones, start dragging a little away from the screen edge, then move into the zone.

Clipboard history does not open

Clipboard History is off by default. Turn it on under OD > Clipboard History, then press Command-Shift-C to open or close the search panel.

1. If the shortcut does nothing, remove any conflicting macOS, third-party, or OmniDock shortcut that already uses it.
2. Automatic paste needs Accessibility. Without it, selecting an entry still copies the item back to the clipboard.
3. OmniDock skips items that the source app marks as temporary, concealed, or automatically generated. It can't recognize every sensitive item. If you share this Mac or copy sensitive information, keep that in mind before turning history on.

Finder right-click commands do not appear

1. Open OD > Settings > Finder Extension and turn on Enable.
2. Enable OmniDock Finder Extension on the macOS extension management page.
3. Quit and reopen Finder if macOS has not refreshed its extension menu yet.
4. Right-click empty space in a local folder for Copy Path and the New File submenu, or select one or more items for Copy Path.

OmniDock adds its extension to your local Desktop, Documents, and Downloads folders, their iCloud Drive equivalents if present, and any other folders you approve. Finder decides whether extension menus appear in cloud-managed folders, so some third-party cloud folders won't show these commands.

If you can see New File but can't create a file, approve access to that folder or one of its parent folders when OmniDock asks. Copy Path doesn't need write access.

A menu bar icon will not move behind the divider

Hidden Bar needs no additional privacy permission. Hold Command while dragging a menu bar icon across OmniDock's divider.

1. Keep Command held for the whole drag. Releasing it early leaves the icon where it was.
2. macOS keeps some items in place, including the clock and Control Center. OmniDock can't move them.
3. If the hidden section collapses sooner than you expect, adjust or turn off the automatic collapse delay under OD > Hidden Bar.
